Kearney — Kearney Police Department and a host of first responders dealt with a motorcycle injury accident on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 10:31 a.m. at Highway 30 and Cherry Avenue. Other agencies involved included Kearney Volunteer Fire Department and CHI Good Samaritan Hospital.
Preliminary investigation indicates a 2023 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by 22-year-old Thanya “Thomas” Mazzei-Minervino, of Omaha, was traveling west on Highway 30 approaching the intersection of Cherry Avenue.
According to witnesses, the motorcycle ran the red light and struck the driver side of a 2016 Chevy Colorado pickup which was turning east onto Highway 30 with a green light. The motorcycle driver was flown to Bergan Mercy Hospital with severe injuries. The driver of the pickup was treated at the scene and released.
The Kearney Police/Buffalo County Fatal Accident Investigation Team, Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office all assisted with the accident investigation.
The accident is still under investigation.
